Greetings from Mr John Gandel AO

As a proud Australian Jew, I am deeply committed to the future of Israel and its society.  With this in mind I have invested in the establishment of the “Gandel Institute for Adult Jewish Learning”.

My Israel investment portfolio is multi-faceted and widespread, ranging from commercial investments through to children’s education.

This investment is unique, marking my first investment in adult learning. It has been motivated by the belief that Israeli society would be far richer if we had a Jewish adult population that is conversant with its heritage and has a deep knowledge of Jewish culture.   A common language, based on the understanding of religion, tradition and culture, would bridge the gulf not only within Israeli society but between Israel and the Diaspora as well.

This has inspired me to invest in this innovative project where adults can study in a pluralist atmosphere and, through a text-based curriculum, based on Jewish sources and Israeli literature, unravel for themselves the different levels of Jewish culture, thereby creating this common language and building mutual respect and understanding.

I invite you to become a student of the Gandel Institute of Adult Jewish Learning. My wife, Pauline, and I sincerely hope that through this exciting venture we will contribute to a more informed and tolerant society.  Your studying in the courses and enjoyment of this rich intellectual feast are my ultimate dividends.
